Yeshiva Ohr Yehuda’s Annual Dinner
will IY”H take place
tonight, Sunday, March 3.

N’eemas Hachaim Hall
555 Oak Street
Lakewood, NJ 08701

Reception 7:00
Program 7:45

Yeshiva Ohr Yehuda of Lakewood, NJ, is led by Rav Zvi Bender, a scion of a family that has been at the forefront of chinuch in America for over sixty years. The establishment of the yeshiva came in response to numerous requests from young Lakewood parents who sought a mosad that would combine unwavering adherence to the mesorah with professionalism in all aspects of their children’s chinuch.

Yeshiva Ohr Yehuda is fittingly named for Rav Zvi’s grandfather, Rav Yehuda Elchonon Diskind zt”l, who was a beloved rebbi for over forty years. Rav Diskind’s talmidim – from the Yeshiva of Eastern Parkway as well as the Mirrer Yeshiva – vividly recall his sweet persona, his hasmadah, and his incredible devotion to their hatzlachah. Decades after leaving his classroom, the mere mention of his name conjures up memories of everything from his trademark Rosh Chodesh treats to the great strides that they made during their year under his tutelage. Many maintained a lifelong kesher with him.

Rav Zvi, a son of the legendary Rav Yaakov Bender, rosh hayeshiva of Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway, New York, outlined the yeshiva’s mission to be in consonance with his father’s mehalech of putting the individual needs of each child at the forefront, doing the very best to bring out each one’s potential. The yeshiva is zocheh to have Rav Yaakov serve as its yoshev rosh.

The yeshiva was established in 2011 with one primary class of 14 students and has since grown into a home away from home for hundreds of talmidim. In a city that is filled with outstanding institutions, this mosad hachinuch stands out for infusing the students with a stellar chinuch while catering to the individual needs of each and every child.

No one puts this credo into practice better than Yeshiva Ohr Yehuda.

Rav Zvi has established exceedingly high standards for the academics at Ohr Yehuda, both in limudei kodesh and limudei chol, and has assembled a staff of handpicked mechanchim, each of whom is a star educator with the ability and sensitivity to bring out the best in every talmid.

This year is a momentous one for Yeshiva Ohr Yehuda of Lakewood, which has embarked on a wide-ranging building campaign to construct a $6 million state-of-the-art facility that will allow the yeshiva to grow and flourish.

The new campus, located on a private cul de sac in a private, serene neighborhood in Lakewood conducive to the development and growth of the student body, will feature airy classrooms, a spacious bais medrash, an expanded dining room, a library, a computer room, a gym, and other amenities that will enhance the education of the talmidim.

This daunting undertaking is being made possible by the support and encouragement of the parents and supporters of Ohr Yehuda, who have taken a leading role in launching this project, understanding its importance as the yeshiva prepares for its first graduating class next year.

The yeshiva’s annual dinner, to be held TONIGHT at N’eemas Hachaim Hall, will celebrate Ohr Yehuda’s achievements and pay tribute to a special group of honorees.

Dr. and Mrs. Yossi Shafer will be the guests of honor. The Shafers, parents of Ohr Yehuda student Avi, as well as Ari, who will be joining Ohr Yehuda’s primary class next year, are exceptional individuals whose friendship to the yeshiva and support to so many people have made them outstanding role models for others to emulate. Supremely dedicated to the chinuch of their children, Ohr Yehuda is proud to count them among the parents of the yeshiva.

Rabbi and Mrs. Elchanan Strimber will receive the Keser Torah Award. The Strimbers, parents of Ohr Yehuda students Shloime, Kalman and Binyomin, are a special couple who exemplify the ruach and values of the mosad. The yeshiva is grateful for their unwavering dedication.

The Grandmother of the Year Award will be presented to Mrs. Rachelle S. Ryp in memory of her choshuve parents and her unforgettable husband. The proud grandmother of Shlomo, Mrs. Ryp embodies the values of an eim b’Yisroel, demonstrating remarkable devotion to her family and inspiring them and others.

The dinner will begin with a reception at 7 p.m., followed by the dinner at 7:45 p.m.
