rav-nosson-tzvi-finkelFor years, the annual dinner of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim was the time when the rosh yeshiva, Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel zt”l, would impart his legendary warmth and ahavas haTorah, as yedidim of the yeshiva and members of the Torah communities of the greater New York area would gather to personally greet him.

This year, with the poignant absence of the rosh yeshiva, thousands of friends have mobilized to pay tribute to the legacy of the rosh yeshiva that continues to touch all segments of Klal Yisroel.

The upcoming Rosh Hayeshiva zt”l International Legacy Dinner of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim, to be held tonight at the New York Brooklyn Marriott, will celebrate the dedication and efforts of the yeshiva‘s alumni and supporters to ensure that the unique kesher between the yeshiva and its supporters remains strong and vibrant.

A tremendous amount of planning and perfection, with meticulous attention to detail, has been invested to guarantee that this will be a most uplifting and enjoyable evening. From Chicago, Los Angeles and beyond, talmidim, admirers and inspired members of Klal Yisroel will travel to join their brethren at the dinner and pay tribute to the rosh yeshiva.

The yeshiva has organized transportation from Toronto, Baltimore, Monsey and Lakewood. The ballroom will be transformed into an incredible maamad of kiddush Hashem as bnei Torah and machzikei Torah from all over unite.

Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, son and successor of the rosh yeshiva, and his mother, the wife of the late rosh yeshiva, will be traveling from Eretz Yisroel to attend the dinner. Many of the maggidei shiur from the Mir are also making the effort this year to travel from Yerushalayim to attend this special event. Parents of current talmidim will be afforded the opportunity to meet personally with their son’s maggid shiur and receive a report on their progress. Thus far, there has been a tremendous outpouring from many talmidim and friends towards this year’s dinner campaign.

A riveting visual presentation on the life of the rosh yeshiva, focusing on his accomplishments and how he transformed to Torah world, will be shown at the dinner. ArtScroll/Mesorah Publications is publishing a biography of the rosh yeshiva in conjunction with the dinner. The book, created in close collaboration with the family of the rosh yeshiva, was partly written by Rebbetzin Sara Finkel, mother of the rosh yeshiva. The Hershey and Raisy Friedman Edition of this volume presents a masterful portrait of Rav Nosson Tzvi and the Mir, and will be distributed at the dinner as a special gift to all attendees.

The dinner campaign is testimony to and a reflection of the far-reaching influence of the rosh yeshiva, whose personal warmth and determination to build Torah touched the hearts of Jews in the Torah world and beyond. His legacy continues, as the kol Torah echoes from between the Mir’s hallowed walls to all corners of the earth.

  1. The greatest kudos to the unsung hero of the evening one Rabbi Chanoch Herskowitz who like the invisible puppeteer pulled all the strings to make this unbelievable maamad of Kiddush Hashem happen!
