Tools Smuggled Into Prison Inside Meat

Authorities now say that the power tools used in the upstate New York prison break were smuggled into the facility in a box of frozen hamburger meat.

Joyce Mitchell, the prison worker accused of helping Richard Matt and David Sweat escape, allegedly had the meat bypass metal detectors. In Sweat and Matt’s honor block, prisoners were allowed to cook their own meals.

This revelation comes amid news that Mitchell told her husband about her plan to aid the two convicted killers. Lyle Mitchell says his wife began to get cold feet when one of the prisoners provided her with pills to use to knock her husband out.

Two other prison workers have been placed on administrative leave in recent days after police discovered the escapees used a cabin belonging to them. Officials are now investigating whether the men took a weapon from the cabin. Read more.
