Republican Governor Ron DeSantis from Florida, who is vying for the presidency, asserted during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The Story” that his administration would employ lethal force against drug traffickers at the United States border.

DeSantis expressed concern over the significant loss of lives resulting from the trafficking of fentanyl, stating, “People are dying by the tens of thousands because of the fentanyl that’s trafficked in.”

Furthermore, he shared his observations from multiple visits to the border, revealing that the cartels were able to breach the border wall by cutting through its sturdy sections using tools such as blow torches or saws. Carrying backpacks filled with drugs, these criminals would swiftly cross the border.

In his role as commander in chief, DeSantis advocated for the establishment of appropriate rules of engagement, asserting, “If you’re cutting through a border wall on sovereign U.S. territory and you’re trying to poison Americans, you’re going to end up stone cold dead. We are not going to put up with this right now. The drug cartels control our border. It’s open season.”

DeSantis additionally emphasized that the cartels’ reach extends beyond the border, necessitating maritime operations. He explained that precursor chemicals are being shipped to Mexico, where the cartels transform them into fentanyl and transport the lethal product into the United States, causing fatalities in communities nationwide. To comprehensively address this issue, DeSantis pledged to implement a full spectrum strategy.
