Nearly eight in 10 Americans believe that 2020 has created an identity crisis for the country with nearly seven in 10 saying the year has left them feeling defeated, a nationwide poll finds.

The OnePoll survey of 2,000 Americans said 77% of Americans agreed with the statement that the past year has caused an “existential crisis” for the country, studyfinds.org reported.

Sixty-eight percent of those questioned say they are ending the year despondent with 65% having experienced a personal crisis.

The most common reason for the low ebb is the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19, which was tagged by 63% of respondents, with the related issue of not being able to engage in activities engaged in before the declaration of health emergencies and subsequent restrictions next at 45%.

  1. Understandably so. The vast majority of Americans (many Yidden included) live in THIS world; without ANY input or influence from a Greater “being”, let alone hashgachah pratis. The message of Chanukah is that there IS a Shimcha haGadol. The lesson of Chanukah is that divarim Gedolim einam b’mikra.

The ” vertle” we’ve all heard and repeated many times – why we spin the dreidle from the top – really has deep meaning (the only difference between a “vertle” and “Gut vort” is the deapth and significance one sees in it).

The very game of dreidle is significant as well; Many situations give the impression the whole world is spinning uncontrolably until the situations resolves itself – one way or another – and we see with 20-20 hindsight that it was all from above, all from the Shem Havaya (the four letter name of HaShem, which brought and brings everything into BEING/HAVAYA). Four letters! Hmm!

On Purim we realized there are hidden nissim. On Chanukah we realize EVERYTHING is nes!

If we live IN 2020, we will be despondent. If we live WITH 2020, we will be b’simchah (or at least have the menuchas ha’nefesh to contimue, to ask the right people for guidance) and merit to see the victory of rabim b’yad mi’atim . . . BB”A!
