Amid upbeat music and dancing volunteers shaking mini-tamborines, 125 women cycled underneath the Tour deSimcha banner on to begin the fourth Tour on Tuesday, July 7. The 72-mile journey began in the early morning hours in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, and ended at Camp Simcha later that afternoon.
The Tour is a tour de force, demanding both physical prowess and stamina as the hills grow in size and scope. Despite the challenges, the mood was exuberant as the women rode. Everyone had trained hard, but their thoughts were not on themselves.
“It’s difficult to find the time to train and raise the money,” admitted one woman. “Most of us are mothers and grandmothers. There are a lot of professionals in the group with very demanding jobs. Nevertheless, this is more than a personal victory. We all did this for the kids.”
