Toxic ‘Forever Chemicals’ Found in Largest U.S. Freshwater Supply

A new report reveals that “forever chemicals” have become widespread throughout the Great Lakes water basin, which supplies 95 percent of the freshwater in the United States.

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are synthetic chemicals used to make products water, oil, and fire-resistant, including items like nonstick pans and water-repellent clothing. These chemicals have been associated with numerous severe health issues.

According to The Guardian, the study identified that a significant portion of PFAS in the basin comes from precipitation, a source that had previously been underestimated.

The study found the highest levels of water and air contamination in Lake Ontario, which is bordered by the most urban areas. In contrast, Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes, showed the lowest contamination levels. As a result of the contamination, fish consumption advisories have been issued throughout the region, and in Michigan alone, there are thousands of sites with tainted drinking water.

“We need to take a broad approach to control sources that release PFAS into the atmosphere and into bodies of water… since they eventually all end up in the lakes,” stated Marta Venier, a co-author of the study.

    • Water filter! Obviously…..
It will protect you from this and all other chemicals that they don’t know about (or know about and not tell you).
Never put your health in the hands of the health dept.! How sad indeed.
