In a tragic turn of events, 19-year-old Racheli S. lost both of her parents to cancer over the course of only one year. It all began 8 months ago, when she lost her mother. In the months that followed, she became engaged to be married. She and her father hoped this would be the beginning of good things. Until he was diagnosed. He passed away 4 months ago, just one week after his daughter’s erusin.
The teenage girl, now in many ways alone in the world, has moved in to live with her school principal. She is working as a babysitter, in a desperate attempt to earn enough money to begin her home. As of now she has none of the things a bride needs: A dress, appliances or furniture for her home, clothing to wear.
She was reportedly submitted to the Kupat Ha’Ir board, which determines which of Bnei Brak’s charity cases will be highlighted for their featured campaign. Racheli’s emergency fund is currently featured but has yet to raise the money she needs.
It is unclear how one girl will continue this journey on her own, especially when her grief is so new. However this special young woman has taken this challenge upon herself: To make her own wedding, and to start a new life. It is truly inspiring.
