A frum 16-year-old boy fell from a ninth-story balcony in Miami Beach, FL, tonight and passed away.
Sammy Farkas z”l was seemingly locked out of his apartment at the La Costa condominium complex on Collins Avenue and was attempting to climb down from the balcony above on the tenth floor to his apartment when he fell to the ground below.
Police are investigating.
Miami Beach Police and Fire Rescue units were called to the scene in the area of 53rd Street and Collins Avenue, just before 8 p.m.
Sammy, a tenth grade student at Hebrew Academy, was to turn 17 years old in just a few days.
Rabbi Zvi Kahn, Head of School at Hebrew Academy, sent out the following message:
To the Hebrew Academy Community,
A terrible tragedy has occurred. Sammy Farkas, a 10th grade student, passed away tonight. We will send out funeral and Shiva information when it becomes available. Counseling services will be provided to the students tomorrow.
