    • Did you see the part at the end of this statement “…after being left in a vehicle by accident.”?

This has happened in the past when, for example, one parent always does car-pool and, one day, the other parent takes the child on the way to work – but is so used to going straight to work that they forget that the child is in their car.

To help prevent tragedies like this, some? all? newer cars have warnings that remind the driver to check the back seat if they had opened that door upon/before entering the car.

May Hashem bring compassion to the family. What a horrible situation. Sorry I’m confused saddened and frustrated sending love and good wishes to the family

  2. I never understood how this can happen until one day around a week after I had my baby; my mother was visiting to help. We put the baby/doona into the back. My mother was sitting with her there. Suddenly I said, oh, I need something from this bakery so my mom said she will run in. She left her phone in the car. I suddenly reminded myself of 2 more things we need for shabbos. I had been in a parking spot. I quickly put the engine off and ran out of the car and into the store. Remember, this is the yerushalayim mid july heat. I’m in the bakery looking around and 2 minutes later my mother asks me, where is the baby? I suddenly literally lost my heartbeat, zoomed back into the car, the baby was sweating so hard… I am shaken to this day. I had another baby after that and took upon myself that I am never driving my babies alone in a car without more than two people with me. My youngest was never in a car with me alone or with less than the whole family. I am traumatized! The doubt I developed on myself was so great that it stood in my way of wanting more kids.

    • Thank you for sharing this. I do not drive too much and have a different pattern, take the car for long trips, not so much for small errands. Your experience is traumatic but perhaps you are making a difference. I also have two children and I want more very much, and bli neder, I will make an effort to always have more than two people in the car when driving with a baby or small child, as you do.
