  1. 1) The driver that killed her must be held accountable.

    2) Measure should be taken to make the streets safer to prevent recurrence, e.g. by slowing traffic, engineering streets for safety…

      • We know that אדם מועד לעולם – a person is responsible, accountable. If someone killed by accident, the Torah has them going to exile, and even then, before they get there there is an inyan of גואל הדם. They don’t get off scot-free.

    • In our religion we pride ourselves for the kindness and sensitivity we have for each other regardless whether we know our fellow Jew or not. This tragedy is one that hurts everyone of our Jewish brothers and sisters. We are praying for the family, trying to feel their pain and promise to do everything we can for all involved.

The first comment from a true Jews mouth to such a tragedy is not about accountability. We don’t judge nor do we assume. We feel the pain of the driver as well as we are sure this was a horrific accident and not an intentional murder. We agree that necessary actions should be taken to prevent any such type of accidents but the first thing we do is pray for the well being and strength for all involved.

Thank you for your comment, but but be assured that we as Jews are a unified nation, feel each others pain and are praying to our G-D for all involved is our 1st response.

      • A driver that killed, according to our holy Torah, even if it was not deliberately, is still very seriously punished. We are not dan lekaf zechus, oy, maybe he was in the middle of listening to his daf yomi shiur and was distracted. That is foolish, like Liberal insane ideas. Taking of a life is very, very serious, and carries great consequences. The velt is not hefker, Yiddishe blood spilled cries out for justice.

  2. There is another problem that makes streets more dangerous now, and that is a large amount of vehicles are larger, taller, heavier, more powerful…Whereas in the past most people had sedans, now so many have SUV’s, minivans, vans, or even pickup trucks and so on.

Many of these vehicles are taller, the driver is higher up, and has less view of the road down low right in front of the vehicle, where small children might be, whose small stature doesn’t help their visibility.

Additionally, these vehicles have a taller profile, so that whereas in the past, if someone was hit by a car, the lower body would bear the brunt and they would go up on the hood, toward the windshield, today’s SUV, etc. is taller, so more of the body of the victim is hit, and more sensitive areas, especially for a youngster.

    May HKB”H protect us.

  3. A tragedy.
Too many children are lost due to traffic encounters that could be avoided. At times, the driver is at fault, at times the child is at fault.
The facts are not clear. Was the victim driving in the street and the driver did not see her? Did the victim dive into moving traffic? Was the victim wearing a proper safety helmet? What happened? If an article like this is posted, post clear details so people do not jump to the wrong con conclusions.
MOST IMPORTANT; WE NEED TO EDUCAATE OUR CHILDREN AND GRANCHILDREN AND CONTINUOUSLY REINFOCE THE RULES ABOUT SAFETY WHEN RIDING IN THE STREET. WE NEED TO TELL THE VEHICLE DRIVERS TO DRIVER MORE CAUTIOUSLLY, AND SLOW AND BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CHILDREN ON SCOOTERS OR BICYLES.
