It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the tragic passing of 13-year-old Moshe Moskowitz z”l, who was killed in a major accident on Interstate 95 in Maryland last night.

Moshe was a son of Rabbi and Mrs. Daniel and Tamara Moskowitz, residents of Wallis Avenue in Baltimore.

Reb Doniel is a rebbi at Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim/TA in Pikesville, where Moshe was a talmid. Mrs. Moskowitz also works as a teacher in Baltimore.

Moshe was set to begin mesivta this coming year.

CBS Baltimore reports that the accident occurred at about 9:15 p.m. on the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Intercounty Connector, when at least four vehicles, including a tractor trailer, collided.

The crash took place near exit 31B in Beltsville, about 30 miles southwest of Baltimore’s frum community.

Fox News DC reports that a black Honda Pilot became disabled in the roadway, resulting in a collision with a Dodge Caravan, a tractor-trailer and a Volkswagen.

Moshe, who was traveling in the Dodge minivan with his mother, Tamara, was flown to Children’s Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries.

His mother, who was driving the van, was taken to Medstar in Washington, D.C., and is in critical condition. All are ask to say Tehillim for Tamar Adina bas Keina Shulamis.

Mrs. Moskowitz was driving home from the airport at the time of the accident, Matzav.com has learned. She had taken her daughter to the airport to travel to Eretz Yisroel to visit a brother and sister studying there. The two siblings in Israel are heading back to the United States for the levayah.

Fox reports that the driver of the Honda, identified as 58-year-old Maria Chryssos, and the passenger, 35-year-old Anastacia Chryssos, were both transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as 53-year-old Linda Perline, was not injured in the collision.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated at this time. Alcohol and foul play are not suspected.

As seen in the photo above, provided by Bike4Chai, Moshe participated in Chai Lifeline’s Bike4Chai this year, raising thousands of dollars as one of the youngest participants ever in the annual fundraiser.

“Moshe was a joy and a nachas,” a rebbi told Matzav.com. “His smile and simchas hachaim were contagious. He was smart, he was gifted, and he loved helping others. This tragedy has shook his friends and family to the core. We have lost a diamond, a precious gem.”

Levaya details will be published once they are finalized.
