Two Chassidim have died and over 100 of others have been injured in a bleacher collapse at the Stoliner Bais Medrash in Givat Zev today, Erev Shavuos, as hundreds had gathered for an event celebrating the opening of the new Stoliner bais medrash.

Shortly after the commencement of the tish, the bleachers towards the back of the bais medrash gave way, sending dozens of Chassidim falling through the air in frightening fashion.

The scope and severity of the injuries are not clear at this time.

According to one source, as many as 135 people have been hurt.

There were approximately 600 people in the bais medrash at the time of the tragic collapse.

Magen David Adom took most of the injured, including five in serious condition, to Shaare Zedek Hospital, Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital and Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital.

The bais medrash has now been completely shut by officials.

UPDATE: The victims are a 12-year-old boy and a man in his 50s.

According to sources, as the construction of the building was not complete, the proper permits were not obtained. There was no permit for occupancy.

  1. may be illiterate for my question,,, byt i see many waring Talleisim,,, for a yom tov night Davening-Tish are Taleisim worn? I personally dont have that minhag ….. if someone can clarify I would be appreciated thank you n gut Yom Tov

    • Stoliner minhag in Eretz Yisroel, Friday night and Yom Tov night, a tallis is worn by everyone (BTW, Rabbi Pincus ztl used to go to Stolin Friday night to be able to cry under a tallis…)

    • There a few chassidic groups that where a talis on Shabbos and Yom Tov night. Karlin Stolin is one of them. Slonim as well. I don’t remember the exact place but I believe it’s based on a tosafos.

    • The minhag in Yerushalayim is to wear a talis on erev shabos and erev yom tov. stolin follows this minhag in Yershalayim / givat zev

  2. To Nachum, poster #4, Minhag Yerushalyim, if which Karln Stolin follows for t
he most part, wears Tallis at the onset of Shabbos and Tom Tov.

  3. Who designed and built the bleachers? What was the weight load limit? Additionally, I hope that arabs were not hired for this construction job. You hire an arab in order to save a dollar, not only you are feeding a snake, but also you never know if the construction was sabotaged, AND your undertaking won’t receive birkas H’. Whoever hires arabs, especially for construction projects, childcare setting or for food industry, is careless with Jewish lives! Yes, it was a message from H’, but it doesn’t take away the responsibility from whoever was careless with Jewish lives. Yes, it has to be discussed and analyzed now, or the evil spirit of carelessness with the Jewish lives will continue unabated.

  4. Who cares if there was a permit or not? As neighbors of this wonderful chassidus in givat zev, I can tell you they are the most careful people out there. In everything.
This is so CLEARLY all from Hashm!
He is trying to tell us something again and again.
I wish I knew what it was
