A  car accident overnight claimed the life of Reb Tzvi Yehuda (Yiddel) Weinstock z”l, gabbai of the Satmar Rebbe. He was 68.

The accident took place at about 1:30 a.m. on the New York State Thruway. Several vehicles were involved in the accident, with one of them catching fire. Hatzolah volunteers from Monsey and Kiryas Yoel worked valiantly to extricate the vehicles’ passengers, at least one of whom was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Reb Yiddel, a resident of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was a devoted gabbai of the Berach Moshe of Satmar and of Rav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum of Satmar. Her also served as the gabbai of Kollel Shomrei Hachomos and oversaw the distribution of large sums of money to tzedakah of various kinds.

Three years ago, his wife passed away at the age of 61. She was the daughter of the late Reb Yitzchok Moskowitz.

Reb Yiddel was bound heart and soul to the admorim of Satmar. His sudden passing comes as a shock to Reb Yiddel’s many chaveirim and admirers, and the money who turned to him for his assistance, guidance and chizuk.

It appears that the car in which Reb Yiddel was driving was struck by a vehicle driving in the opposite direction.

Reb Yiddel had gone last night to Bloomingburg for a gathering there and then to Shikun Skver to be menachem avel the Skverer Rebbe there. He was en route to Bloomingburg to pick up his car there when the horrific accident occurred.

Reb Yiddel leaves behind a wonderful family, including his children, Reb Yitzchok Weinstock, Reb Mayer Weinstock, Reb Benzion Weinstock, Reb Shimon Weinstock, Reb Eliezer Weinstock, Mrs. Mehring, wife of Reb Yaakov Yosef Mehring, Mrs. Blumenberg, wife of Reb Chaim Blumenberg, and Mrs. Hirsch, wife of Reb Yoel Hirsch.

Levayah details will be posted once they are finalized.

Yehi zichro boruch.
