The Tri-State area is facing several days of winter weather that could snarl motorists and force officials to once again close schools. The National Weather Service says low pressure from the Midwest will make its way offshore, producing a prolonged period of precipitation from early Tuesday into Wednesday.
A winter storm watch will be in effect for parts of the Tri-State area through Wednesday morning.
Forecasters expect the snow to arrive after around sunrise Tuesday. The off-and-on snowfall will continue Tuesday morning and leave up to 2 inches of accumulation. By Tuesday night, however, the precipitation is expected to change over to rain and a wintry mix for parts of the area.
On Wednesday morning, sleet and freezing rain threatens to leave area roads icy for the morning commute. The storm could end with a brief period of snow on Wednesday night.
Accumulations could range from an inch to more than 6 inches of snow. There’s also the potential for up to half an inch of ice.
Accumulations could knock down tree limbs and power lines.
