gasAs summer kicks into high gear, gas prices in the Tri-State area have skyrocketed to the highest prices in the last six years. Right now, the average price for regular gas in New York is $3.91, CBS 2 reported.

In New Jersey, it’s substantially less at $3.57, which is up 3 cents from a week ago and 19 cents from a year ago.

Meanwhile, Connecticut is painfully close to $4 per gallon at an average of $3.96.

AAA Mid-Atlantic said instability in Iraq has affected prices, but noted most of Iraq’s oil production is centered in the southern region of the country which has not been affected by the conflict.

AAA predicted about 35 million Americans will hit the road for the Fourth of July holiday, the most since 2007.
