The trial of Sergeant Elor Azaria, the Kfir Brigade soldier who shot dead an already-neutralized terrorist in Chevron on Purim, began this morning at Yaffo Military Court, with the accused being read his indictment.

“The soldier took several steps towards the terrorists, aimed at his head and fired a single bullet from short range. The defendant did this in contravention of the rules of engagement and without justification,” the indictment said, according to a Ynet report.

Azaria was charged with manslaughter and inappropriate conduct last month.

  1. The state of Israel should be ashamed of themselves. Instead of giving this soldier a heroes medal, they indict the victim. The second that terrorists came with a knife, their life was forfeited. What a zechus that soldier had, but the state of Israel doesn’t value life

  2. He’s being used as a scapegoat to showcase Israel’s humanity to the world. Israel should be prosecuting terrorists not persecuting her own people. He got a murderer off the streets. He deserves praise not punishment.

  3. Comments #1 &#2 are so right!
Sadly this hero will sit in jail for a long time and will likely get beat up in prison by the prisoners who also deserve what he gave their brother – א קויל אין קאפ.
Can’t we begin a fund and a twitter account offering support for this guy!???
Let Israel see how the world cherishes his precious act!

  4. He does not imho deserve a medal, the terrorist was neutralized and at close range, and there was hardly a need to aim at the head. But the absurdity and heartache of being prosecuted as if he were a criminal or a terrorist? That said, the trial is still ongoing, and perhaps the military court will come to a sensible conclusion.
