President Trump declared on Wednesday that he intends to classify Antifa as a “MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION” and press for inquiries into those who support the far-left movement.
“I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION,” Trump announced on Truth Social.
“I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices,” the president continued. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Antifa, short for “anti-fascist,” is a loosely organized group known for violent activity, often dressing in black and appearing at demonstrations to confront police and ignite unrest.
Earlier this week, Trump made clear he was “100%” supportive of labeling the movement a terrorist organization, despite the fact that it operates without an identifiable leadership hierarchy.
His declaration comes as pressure has mounted to curb far-left groups following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last week.
Authorities say Tyler Robinson, accused of killing the Turning Point USA founder, was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.”
