Donald Trump, the Republican contender for U.S. president, stated on Sunday that he had recently spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, claiming the conversation occurred “like two days ago.” However, this contradicted an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, which indicated that no such conversation had taken place.

In a Fox News interview broadcast on Sunday, Trump was asked about the delay in U.S. President Joe Biden’s communication with Netanyahu, noting that Biden had only reached out after a seven-week gap. Trump described this delay as “pathetic.”

“Like two days ago and he came to my house in Florida, Mar-a-Lago with his wife who was lovely,” Trump said, referring to Netanyahu and his wife, Sara. “I can tell you that Bibi has been very strong. He’s not listening to Biden,” he continued, using Netanyahu’s familiar nickname.

After Biden’s long absence from communication, he finally called Netanyahu and requested that Israel reduce its military operations in Beirut. Following this conversation, Israel did indeed refrain from conducting further strikes on the Lebanese capital.

In response to Biden’s call, the Prime Minister’s Office described the discussion as “businesslike.” The statement emphasized that while Israel values and listens to concerns raised by its ally, the United States, the ultimate decisions are always made in consideration of Israel’s national interests.

On the subject of cooperation with the U.S., the Prime Minister’s Office explained, “There’s ongoing communication with them and we listen to their concerns, just as we explain our perspective and analysis. Israel will do whatever is necessary to protect itself.”
