President Trump is expected to attend the Super Bowl on Sunday in New Orleans, marking the first time a sitting president will be present at the nation’s most high-profile sporting event, The Post has learned.

Punchbowl News initially broke the story, which was subsequently verified by federal law enforcement sources, confirming Trump’s attendance at the Caesars Superdome.

With heightened concerns following a terrorist attack last month, security at the Super Bowl will be increased. Just 39 days earlier, a terrorist inspired by ISIS drove a truck through crowds celebrating New Year’s Eve on Bourbon Street, resulting in 14 deaths and injuring dozens more.

While no sitting president has ever attended the Super Bowl, three vice presidents have done so. In 1971, Spiro Agnew, an avid fan of the Baltimore Colts, watched his team secure a 16-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys at the Orange Bowl in Miami.

More than a decade later, Vice President George H.W. Bush was at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan, where he witnessed the San Francisco 49ers clinch their first Super Bowl title, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-21.

In 1994, Vice President Al Gore attended the Super Bowl at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, where the Dallas Cowboys handed the Buffalo Bills their fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss with a decisive 30-13 win. Former President George H.W. Bush later appeared at a Super Bowl, participating in the coin toss alongside Cowboys legend Roger Staubach, ahead of the New England Patriots’ stunning upset of the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI. That game, like this Sunday’s, also took place in New Orleans.
