There must be “some form of punishment” for women who have abortions, Donald Trump said Wednesday afternoon during a pre-taped MSNBC town hall event.

Asked by host Chris Matthews whether he believes abortion should be illegal, Trump agreed, noting that to actually ban the procedure, “you go back to a position like they had where they would perhaps go to illegal places, but we have to ban it.” Pressed further on whether he believes women would be specifically punished for abortion if it were illegal, Trump said yes, but added that the exact punishment would “have to be determined.”

Following outcry over his comments, the Trump campaign issued a statement: “This issue is unclear and should be put back into the states for determination. Like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions, which I have outlined numerous times.” Read more at NBC.

  1. read what he said – if it becomes against the law and someone does it they should be punished.
    what is wrong with that?

it is against the law to j-walk
anyone who j-walks should be punished

it is against the law to speed
anyone who speeds should be punished

    your headline should read
TRUMP SAYS ALL LAWS ON THE BOOKS SHOULD BE ENFORCED

    • There are two aspects to why what Trump said is wrong:
      1. Many women who seek abortion are often highly distressed (very poor, something is wrong with the baby and they think they cannot deal with it). They are being referred to counselors/clinics (such as Planned Parenthood, which Trump thinks is great). There, they are encouraged to believe that abortion is the best solution for them. Historically, we know that even when abortion is illegal women RISK THEIR LIVES to get an abortion (by doing it themselves or going to bad clinics). The effective solution is therefore to give them emotional, financial and spiritual support, such as the great work that the EFRAT organization does to prevent thousands of abortions of Jewish babies in Israel. Threatening women with legal punishment only serves to repel them from seeking help to keep the baby.
      2. There is a political battle going on in the U.S. regarding abortions. Liberals are portraying “pro-life” advocates as hard-hearted people who do not care about women – the so called “war on women”. What Trump said just “proves their point”. It alienates people, which further reduces the chances that the Republicans will win the presidency.

  2. Trump is turning into Ben Carson. Too much ideation about that which has no voice for any need of hope. This is very much another unanticipated real experiences of his very back wrong campaign.

Will not win on this. Go Hillary.

  3. TRUMP for president 2016.

We can’t have Obama in office again, we can’t have terrorists blowing up our neighbors. We need every law to be enforced. We need a leader. We need America to be great again. AGAIN- That “AGAIN” will be when DONALD J TRUMP is sitting in that oval office and actually condemning these terror attacks.

    Hillary – Disaster
    Bernie – Insanity
Cruz – He would be fine, if he can beat hillary
Trump – Would be great. A great leader. A great country.
