On Monday, President Trump expressed sympathy to the family of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who was brutally murdered on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina. After being shown the disturbing surveillance footage of the killing, he pledged to confront the “evil people” responsible for such acts of violence.

“There are evil people, and we have to confront that. I just give my love and hope to the family of the young woman who was stabbed this morning or last night in Charlotte by a madman,” Trump told reporters.

Speaking further about the footage, Trump described how the attack unfolded in shocking detail. “A lunatic just got up and started — it’s right on the tape, not really watchable, because it’s so horrible — but just viciously stabbed. She’s just sitting there. So they’re evil people. We have to be able to handle that. If we don’t handle that, we don’t have a country,” he said. Authorities say the killing was carried out by 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., a repeat offender.

The president also pointed to another act of violence that recently devastated the nation — the mass shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, where two children were killed and many others injured — as part of a broader pattern of senseless bloodshed he is determined to stop.

“We’re going to get to the end of it. And you know, when you have horrible killings, you have to take horrible actions,” Trump said, stressing that lenient justice policies allow crime to flourish.

He placed much of the blame on bail reform policies, which he said enable repeat offenders to continue committing crimes. “And the actions that we take are nothing — this cashless bail started a wave in our country where a killer kills somebody and is out on the street by the afternoon, in many cases, going out and going again cashless bail,” he said.

  1. It’s ironic she had in her room a chalkboard with the words Bla ck Lives M atter. She came to the US in 2022 hoping to have a safe life.

  2. People have to be more circumspect and cautious and frankly, suspicious of others. Sitting on a train in the city is not a free relaxing ride. you look around who is next to you and who is behind you. If you are traveling with company, you take turns being vigilant or you each watch your side. That’s life in the USA.
