The Department of Homeland Security says it is adding an average 10 miles per week to the southwest border wall, putting it on track to complete 450 miles before the end of the year.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott posted a construction update to Twitter on Tuesday which noted that 360 miles already were completed, another 221 miles were under construction and 157 more were in the process of pre-construction for a total of 738 miles.

Combined with the 580 miles of fencing and walls that reportedly existed in 2009, the new 738 miles would cover more than 67% of the 1,954-mile U.S.-Mexico border from San Diego to Brownsville, Texas.

  1. Electronic fencing would save billions. Installed in days. Just like the kind that keeps your pet in the yard. Walls are old fashioned and cost too much. Boondoggle. Elect me.
