A U.S. ambassador has delivered a letter from President Trump to North Korea’s foreign minister so it can be turned over to Kim Jong Un. U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said Saturday that the letter was given to North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho immediately after he shook hands with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for a group photo at the ASEAN summit in Singapore. No details were provided on the contents of the message.

The letter, Trump’s response to a “nice” letter from Kim received earlier this week, came amid new concerns over North Korea’s commitment to denuclearization following reports that the country has continued to develop its nuclear program in defiance of international sanctions. Even as the North Korean foreign minister accepted Trump’s letter on Saturday, he railed against what he described as Washington’s “alarming” moves to isolate Pyonyang from the rest of the world. Pompeo and Ri reportedly spoke briefly at the summit but did not have a formal meeting. Read more at the WASHINGTON POST.
