trumpDonald Trump doesn’t think Russia should be held accountable for last year’s downing of a commercial airliner over Ukraine despite a new report that concluded the plane was shot out of the sky by a Russian-made rocket and warhead.

Speaking to MSNBC Wednesday, Trump was asked what he would do as president to hold Russia accountable for the attack, after a report from Dutch investigators blamed pro-Russian separatists for the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.

“They say it wasn’t them,” Trump said of Russia. “It may have been their weapon, but they didn’t use it, they didn’t fire it, they even said the other side fired it to blame them.”

The Republican presidential candidate later walked back his statement and said it was “probably” Russia and pro-Russian fighters, but that the U.S. needed to focus on its own issues. Read more at CNN.

  1. Russia is once again the Evil Empire. While the shootdown of a civilian airliner was a case of mistaken identity (IMO), just like the U.S. shootdown of an Iranian airliner in the 80’s, Russia’s subsequent lies and stonewalling are typical of Putin’s aggressiveness and arrogance on the world stage.
