There is “certainly a chance” the US Embassy in Israel will be relocated from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, President Donald Trump said in a Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) interview that aired this week.

Asked by CBN’s David Brody about the potential move — which was a Trump campaign promise — the new president replied, “I’m looking at it…We are studying it very, very long and hard. You know it’s a very big decision, because every president for the last number of presidents…they’ve come in and they were going to do it and then all of  a sudden they decide they don’t want to get involved. It’s a big, big decision, but we’re studying the issue right now.”

Trump went on to say, “I’ve always liked the concept of doing it, I will tell you that. I will have a decision in the not-too-distant future…We are doing very detailed studies on that, and we’ll come out very soon. I hate to do that because that’s not usually me — studies — usually I do what’s right. But this has two sides to it; it’s not easy, and I will make a decision over the not-too-distant future.”

Last week, as reported by The Algmeiner, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was non-committal about a timeline for the decision-making process on the embassy matter.

“It’s very early in this process,” Spicer said. “[A]nd his [Trump’s] team is going to continue to consult with stakeholders as we get there.”

On Sunday, in remarks to his cabinet, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu said, “Our relations [with the US] are tight and getting tighter, and I would like to take this opportunity to make it unequivocally clear that our position has always been, and will always be, that the US Embassy needs to be here, in Jerusalem.”

“Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and it is proper that not only should the American embassy be here, but all embassies should come here, and I believe that over time most of them will indeed come here, to Jerusalem,” the prime minister added.

  1. If he does not move it,it’s because the Israeli leadership fears moving it and told him not to. The same happens with all these Israeli cowards. Allowing toeiva parades and other violations is ok. But everything else they fear.

  2. I repeat…

The Australian Government’s statement on Monday 2nd January 2017 that they would not relocate their embassy to Jerusalem was correct.

“Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.”

  3. I don’t understand why you cannot have 2 US Embassies one in the north and one in the south. One US Embassy can be in Tel Aviv for the people in the northern part of Israel and one in Jerusalem for the southern part of Israel. All they have to do is rent a few rooms in one of the large business buildings and put a sign by the door and since the entire Israel is hooked up to electronics the south and north portion of the embassies can be in constant contact. Everything in Israel has to be a tumult, if they just do it instead of daring the world every time Israel does something, JUST DO IT.

  4. Mr Anonymous,
An embassy isn’t a cigarette kiosk, or a fruit juice stand. It is an official representation of a government in another state. It stands in the national capital, on the land that it owns.
Therefore, there cannot be two embassies. Consulates are a different matter, and different entities. They are simply extensions of the embassy.
Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem would signify that the US formally recognizes that city as the capital of the State of Israel.
