President Trump said Wednesday that he wants to visit the U.S.–Mexico border wall before he gives his State of the Union address next month.
Trump, speaking with reporters during an unannounced trip to Iraq, said he planned on “going to the wall” for a “groundbreaking” event before his State of the Union address, which will be held in late January.
Trump said Wednesday that the government will remain closed for however long it takes to get funding for the wall.
“We need safety for our country,” he added. “Even from this standpoint. We have terrorists coming in through the southern border.”
