Trump Says Will Not OK AT&T-Time Warner Deal If Elected

Speaking in Pennsylvania today, Donald Trump railed against media mergers involving news outlets that have been critical of him, threatening to completely weaken the media “power structure.”

In explaining his proposed actions against certain media companies, Trump said,“They’re trying desperately to suppress my vote and the voice of the American people.” “As an example of the power structure I’m fighting, AT&T is buying Time Warner and thus CNN, a deal we will not approve in my administration because it’s too much concentration of power in the hands of too few,” he said.

The proposed merger, announced Friday, saw AT&T agree in principle to buy Time Warner for about $85 billion. “Deals like this destroy democracy,” Trump said of the proposed merger. He went on to say he’d like to “break” the Comcast/NBC Universal merger completed in 2013. He also slammed Amazon, saying that “Amazon, which through its ownership controls Washington Post, should be paying massive taxes but its not paying, and it’s a very unfair playing field … very very unfair and you are talking about billions and billions of dollars.” Washington Post has been relentless in its criticism of Trump throughout the campaign, and CNN has also offered critical coverage. READ Read more at REUTERS.
