Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and many others have released statements upon learning of the death of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Here are some quotes:

Donald Trump:

“I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the Scalia family after the passing of Justice Scalia. Justice Scalia was a remarkable person and a brilliant Supreme Court Justice, one of the best of all time. His career was defined by his reverence for the Constitution and his legacy of protecting Americans’ most cherished freedoms. He was a Justice who did not believe in legislating from the bench and he is a person whom I held in the highest regard and will always greatly respect his intelligence and conviction to uphold the Constitution of our country. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.”

Governor Jeb Bush of Florida:

“We lost a great man whose principled service left our nation vastly better off… [He] was devout in faith and has been brought home to God in heaven. Justice Scalia was a brilliant defender of the rule of law. His logic and wit were unparalleled — and his decisions were models of clarity and good sense. I often said that he was my favorite justice, because he took the Constitution, and the responsibility of judges to interpret it correctly, with the utmost seriousness. Now, it is up to all of us to fight for the principles Justice Scalia espoused and carry forth his legacy.”

Former President George W. Bush:

“Laura and I mourn the death of an important jurist. He was a towering figure and an important judge on the nation’s highest court. He brought intellect, good judgment and wit to the bench and will be missed by colleagues. Laura and I send our condolences to the entire Scalia family.”

Former Vice President Dick Cheney

[He] was a great American and finest of men. His allegiance to the Constitution and personal integrity reflected honor on the court of the United States. I deeply respected the long service be and counted him as a personal friend for more than 25 years. I am grateful for many happy hours in the company of this good, upright, warm-hearted American patriarch. [His passing is a] great sorrow to the court and family.”

U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts:

“On behalf of the court and retired justices, I am saddened to report that our colleague Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away. He was an extraordinary individual and jurist, admired and treasured by his colleagues. His passing is a great loss to the court and the country he so loyally served. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Maureen, and his family.”

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham

“He is one of the most consequential Justices in the history of the court and our nation has benefitted from his service. His work has impacted the lives of all Americans.”

Sen. John Thune of South Dakota

“With his sudden death, our nation lost a stalwart for conservatives and a brilliant constitutional scholar. He was a legal giant who devoted his career to serving our country and his life to serving the Lord.”

Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma

“He was the enduring legacy of the Reagan administration and the conservative standard for not only the Supreme Court but the American judiciary. History will remember Scalia as a stalwart defender of the Constitution and a brilliant legal mind.”

Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas

“The power of Justice Scalia’s intellect, wit, and judicial method have reverberated throughout American law and conservative thought. … He was a scholar, a patriot, a man of principle, and a man of God.”

Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa:

“His nearly 30 years of service on the Supreme Court were marked by a commitment to upholding the principles on which our country was founded.”
