President Donald Trump on Sunday suggested he’ll consider appointing a special prosecutor to probe an election he alleges was rife with illegal and “rigged” balloting.

In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” the president also lamented that James Comey — the FBI director Trump fired in 2017, triggering the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller — and the FBI’s former deputy director, Andrew McCabe, haven’t  faced tough legal scrutiny for their part in the 2016 election.

“This whole thing is a terrible situation,” he said. “This should have never been allowed to happen, and you know, it’s an embarrassment to our country, all over the world they’re talking about it and yeah, I would consider a special prosecutor,” he said in answer to host Maria Bartiromo’s question about such an appointment “to investigate” his allegations “and to continue the investigating into what took place in the 2016 election.”

“I went through three years of a special counsel prosecutor,” Trump added. “I call [it] prosecutor because it’s a much more accurate term,” he added.
