Earlier this week, former President Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden for neglecting to invite Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu to the White House. Trump also indirectly criticized Netanyahu for his handling of the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Trump’s disapproval of Biden’s actions coincides with the U.S. president’s indication that he has no immediate plans to invite the Israeli prime minister to Washington. This comes at a time when Netanyahu’s far-right government is attempting to reform Israel’s judiciary, expand settlements in an unprecedented manner, and deal with a worsening security situation involving the Palestinians.

Speaking at a fundraiser for the Israel Heritage Foundation in Bedminster, New Jersey, Trump addressed over 100 Orthodox Jewish advocates, stating, “Biden doesn’t like you, that I can tell you… He won’t even see Netanyahu. Netanyahu was the first person to call him — that made me feel great — he was the first person to call, and he won’t even see Netanyahu. That’s how low it’s come,” Trump added. His remarks were first shared by the Forward’s Jacob Kornbluh.

Trump’s criticism of Biden follows the lead of his Republican rival, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, who also attacked Biden for failing to extend an invitation to Netanyahu. DeSantis called it “disgraceful” and aligned it with the broader worldview of the current administration. Other Republican candidates have intensified their criticisms of the Biden administration recently, particularly in response to its decision to cut funding to academic institutions located beyond the Green Line, which Republicans have labeled as an “antisemitic boycott of Israel.”

According to the annual benchmark survey conducted by the Jewish Electorate Institute, 72% of Jewish voters prefer Biden over Trump, although among Orthodox Jews, Trump holds a significant lead with a 76-13% difference. Trump has sought to deflect accusations of antisemitism by highlighting his unwavering support for Israel, but in doing so, he has invoked dual loyalty stereotypes and labeled Jews who vote for Democrats as “very disloyal” to Israel. Trump’s opinions about American Jews have perpetuated stereotypes related to wealth, power, and social status that have persisted for decades.

  1. I said all along how Bibi’s chanifah availed him zero. He should’ve waited until the electors were certified by Pence , but he rushed to fawn. He turned his back on Israel’s best friend who was cheated and then backstabbed by Mike.

  2. Definitely a huge blunder on Netanyahu’s part… to congratulate an illegitimate president. Everyone knew the election was stolen. Why did he have to be the first to acknowledge a false election result?
    Terrible mistake.
