President Donald Trump on Tuesday quickly sought to distance himself from Republican gubernatorial hopeful Ed Gillespie in the Virginia governor’s race as Democrat Ralph Northam was projected to win by multiple news outlets.

“Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for,” Trump said on Twitter in the midst of his visit to South Korea, as Virginia results continued to roll in, suggesting a comfortable Northam victory.

In his Tuesday night tweet, Trump reminded his Twitter followers of previous GOP success in special U.S. House races this year.

“Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!” the president said.

  1. Remember the golden rule: it’s never Trump’s fault. Never. He is the best, and if something goes wrong, blame someone else.

  2. Trump is right. True Republicans are fed up with corrupt anti-American RINOs – including Gillespie – who are no better than Democrats, so they’d rather not vote for anyone, which is why they lost.
