Donald Trump, the presumed Republican candidate for the presidency, stated on Wednesday that he would acknowledge the results of the 2024 general election “if everything’s honest,” but emphasized his determination to “fight” if there are any doubts about the fairness of the process.

Speaking to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel during a break from his legal proceedings in New York, Trump campaigned in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Freeland, Michigan.

“I’ll gladly accept the results if everything’s honest. I don’t change on that,” Trump assured the newspaper. “If it’s not, you have to fight for the right of the country.”

Trump remained steadfast in his belief that he had won Wisconsin in the 2020 election.

“If you go back and look at all of the things that had been found out, it showed that I won the election in Wisconsin,” Trump told the paper. “It also showed I won the election in other locations.”

Despite his claims, Trump was defeated by President Joe Biden in Wisconsin by a margin of over 20,000 votes in 2020, following his victory over Hillary Clinton in the state in 2016. The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) released a report in December 2021 indicating no widespread fraud in the state’s presidential election, although it did highlight inconsistencies in procedural adherence among clerks statewide.

Nevertheless, the Republican National Committee has pledged to deploy 100,000 trained volunteers and legal professionals to oversee the electoral process nationwide in November, aiming to uphold the integrity of the election.

According to the RealClearPolitics polling average, Trump currently holds a 1.5-point lead over Biden in Wisconsin, one of the pivotal battleground states.
