Tucker Carlson expressed uncertainty about the reasons behind his departure from Fox News while stating that he holds no anger towards the situation. In an appearance on actor Russell Brand’s podcast, “Stay Free,” Carlson shared his perspective, marking his first public interview since being fired by Fox in April. He admitted, “Honestly, I don’t know. They didn’t agree with me, of course, I don’t think.”
He acknowledged that being fired was not a new experience for him and that expressing one’s genuine opinions often carries the risk of termination. Reflecting on the morning of his dismissal, he said, “It’s not the first time I’ve been fired… when you say what you think there’s an expectation you can get fired. I didn’t expect to get fired that morning at all, so I was shocked. But I wasn’t really shocked… I wasn’t mad.”
During his interview with Brand, Carlson also touched on various topics such as the 2024 presidential election, electronic voting machines, the Capitol incident on January 6, President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, and his new broadcasts on Twitter.
Regarding the U.S.’s involvement in Ukraine, Carlson commended former President Donald Trump for questioning the country’s prolonged war. He stated, “Trump is the only person… who is saying: ‘Wait a second. You know, why are we supporting an endless war in Ukraine?'” Carlson expressed gratitude for Trump’s position, asserting that he believed Trump was right while everyone else in Washington was wrong.
When discussing immigration, Carlson criticized the Biden administration’s approach, alleging that it was deliberately designed to destabilize and harm the country. He clarified that he is not against immigrants but condemned the way immigration is being handled, claiming that it contributes to racial division, which he strongly dislikes due to its insolubility. He stated, “I’m not against immigrants, that’s insane. The way the U.S. is doing immigration is designed to wreck the country… and add to racial division which I hate because it’s not solvable. Our leaders not only want racial conflict but are stoking it.”
Furthermore, Carlson expressed that being labeled a white supremacist had caused him emotional distress. The interview took place shortly after Fox News settled a lawsuit filed by a former producer who claimed that Carlson’s show fostered an abusive work environment, with the network paying $12 million to resolve the matter.
