Twitter Inc. will keep the character limit for tweets to 140, Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey said on the Today Show Friday, putting an end to speculation that the company could extend the limit to as many as 10,000 characters.

“It’s staying,” Dorsey said. “It’s a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity.”

In January, Twitter was said to be considering raising the character limit for tweets to as much as 10,000, according to a person familiar with the matter. Dorsey has been pushing the company to make the service more engaging to attract new users, but the rumor set off a Tweet-storm of criticism.

Twitter removed the 140-character limit for direct private messages between users in August last year.

  1. This is good. I myself twitter daily and I find the 140 character limit the entire game. If I can not say it in exactly 140 characters or less, it was not the Torah blessing to discuss the right of the comment.

Still, One wonders if Hashem is so cool that we do 140 characters in good spirit. He might be the professional value that enables the twitterer to do it well.

    G-d bless America.

    140 characters= 150 prayers.

And the world is still very smart.
