Twitter’s fact-check feature, referred to as “community notes,” has rectified a misleading claim regarding the attendance record at MetLife Stadium.

The erroneous statement, made by a popular culture account, falsely asserted that musician Ed Sheeran had broken the all-time attendance record with an audience of 89,000.

The “community notes” promptly corrected this misinformation and credited the 12th Siyum Hashas of Daf Hayomi for holding the title of the highest attendance ever recorded at MetLife Stadium. The fact-check statement clarified the matter, stating, “The all-time attendance record for MetLife Stadium of 93,000 people was set by the 12th Siyum HaShas on August 1, 2012.”

Interestingly, the subsequent Siyum, held in January 2020, reportedly had a slightly lower turnout, although it still attracted over 92,000 participants. The reasons for the relatively smaller attendance remain unclear. However, it’s worth noting that the event had a second location at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which may have influenced the distribution of attendees.

  1. In 2012 it was in the summer, the next one was in the winter & was freezing. So as you mentioned there was a second venue so many opted to go there instead or watch from the many satellite video locations.

  2. The Giants and Jets are not winning any championship anytime soon. Getting all these expensive over-the-hill “has beens” won’t help them one bit. Yawn.

  3. Its also worthy to note that the Siyum Hashas on Jan 1, 2020 was in the winter as it always is in the northern Hemisphere. That kept some elderly and health conscious people away.

  4. I hope everyone feels good about themselves now, especially the people at 42 Broadway. It’s a feather in their cap .

That being said, I am questioning the numbers. How many people were scanned in that day as part of the crowd coming to watch the event of DAF Yomi? I’m not talking about all the alleged helpers that always show up for these things. If you take what is known as the paid attendance or the total in the house, without the worker is, I don’t think it was 93,000, pushing 90,000 maybe. Remember they’re only a certain amount of seats in the house, regardless of whether they are in the stadium bowl or in the suites. Even the extra thousand seats that were put on the floor.

    • I Think its a little bit cowardly response, although every single yid is a world for himself, when you speak about 90,000 people or 93,000 its is not that big of a difference in success rate.
