police-lakewoodThe two Lakewood police officers who were hospitalized after they were shot during a raid Thursday morning are at home and resting comfortably, Lt. William Addison said. Patrolman Jonathan Wilson, who was shot in the face during the raid on a Mackenzie Court home, was released this past weekend from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark. Lt. Greg Meyer, who was shot in the foot, was released Sunday from Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

The alleged shooter, Jaime Gonzalez, 39, was reported in stable condition today by hospital officials at Jersey Shore.

Police said Gonzalez who was firing at officers as they entered the house. The police returned gunfire and Gonzalez was struck several times.

Gonzalez was charged with four counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of stolen property. The gun he allegedly used was a .357 Magnum reported stolen from South Carolina, police said.

Two other officers — Patrolman Leonard Nieves Sr. and Sgt. Louis Sasso — received minor injuries when the bullets struck their armored vests.

Deputy Chief Michael Mohel of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said the list of charges against Gonzalez continues to grow, as authorities process evidence from the home that was the subject of a no-knock warrant executed by a task force made up of local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

In executing the search warrant, after conducting the investigation into the shooting, police found more than 5 ounces of cocaine and more than 50 grams of marijuana, an undisclosed amount of ecstasy and about $15,000 in cash, Mohel said.

Police also found assorted weapons, including knives and swords, but no guns.

However, authorities said they did find boxes of ammunition, including bullets for a .357 Magnum, and a bulletproof vest.
