The United Kingdom followed a directive issued Monday by the United States which would ban large electronic devices such as tablets and laptops from certain direct flights to the U.S. originating in some Middle Eastern and African nations. The U.K. version of the ban applies to flights originating in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Passengers will be required to place laptops, tablets, Kindles and cameras in their checked luggage. A spokesman for U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May said the new measures are “necessary and proportionate.”

The U.S. ban affects 10 airports in eight Muslim-majority countries: Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The ban, put in place by the Department of Homeland Security, has the support of Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. Read more at the BBC NEWS.
