The United States and Cuba reached a preliminary agreement in Washington on Wednesday to resume direct commercial flights.
The news comes the day before the two countries mark the anniversary of the deal to normalize relations a year ago.
Cuban and American officials said they hope to have a formalized deal within the coming days, which could pave the way for US airlines to begin flying to Cuba over the next few months.
