UK Economy Slumps At Fastest Pace Since 2008

Britain’s economy shrank two percent in the first three months of the year, as the country went into coronavirus lockdown, according to official data released from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Wednesday.

Gross domestic product shrank in the first quarter compared with the prior three months in the largest slump since the global financial crisis in the fourth quarter of 2008, the ONS revealed.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson reported on Wednesday that 275 health and social care workers have died from COVID-19, as unofficial estimates suggest that the UK’s coronavirus death toll has surpassed 40,000.
