The sub-committee on Ties with the Jewish World of the Knesset Immigration, Absorption & Diaspora Affairs Committee will be meeting to discuss the anti-Israel climate in the UK.
MK Einat Wilf (Atzma’ut), Chair of the Sub-Committee, who called for the meeting, says that in recent years, the UK seems to be the European or even the world centre of the political struggle against Israel and that the call for the boycott of the Habima production of The Merchant of Venice is merely the most recent example of this. MK Wilf explained that “The purpose of the debate, to take place with the participation of leaders of the UK Jewish community, is to address the challenges faced by the Jewish and pro-Israel community in Great Britain and the range of possible responses to these challenges. ”
The meeting will be attended by representatives of UK Jewish organizations, the Jewish Agency for Israel, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs, Strategic Affairs and Immigrant absorption, WZO, Jewish People Policy Institute, the Re’ut Institute, the JNF, World Jewish Congress, the Zionist Council in Israel, the Shalom Hartman Institute, Hillel Organization, The Nachum Goldman Foundation, PresenTense Group, The BINA Center for Jewish Identity and Hebrew Culture and the Council of Immigrant Organizations in Israel.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 22 May at 1:00 pm in the Committee Room at the Knesset.
