UN Atomic Watchdog Confirms Iran Constructing Underground Nuclear Facility

Iran is constructing a new underground centrifuge assembly plant after the damage wrought to its Natanz nuclear site over the summer, the UN’s atomic watchdog chief confirmed in an interview with The Associated Press (AP) on Tuesday.

In July, an explosion reportedly rocked Iran’s main uranium enrichment site, destroying its above-ground facility that lies some 125 miles south of its capital, Tehran.

Chief of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi told state television in September that the previous site will be replaced with a new one “in the heart of the mountains around Natanz.”
