Federal authorities have issued a nationwide alert highlighting the increased threat facing Jewish and Israeli communities across the United States. The warning comes in the wake of two high-profile violent incidents that have shaken those communities and drawn concern from federal law enforcement.
In a Public Service Announcement released jointly by the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, officials pointed to a recent uptick in antisemitic violence, citing multiple attacks as examples of a troubling trend. “The war in Gaza,” the bulletin said, “may motivate other violent extremists and hate crime perpetrators with similar grievances to conduct violence against Jewish and Israeli communities and their supporters.”
Among the incidents prompting the announcement was a violent assault on June 1 in Boulder, Colorado, where a man launched Molotov cocktails and wielded an improvised flamethrower against a group of demonstrators supporting Israeli hostages. Twelve individuals were injured in the ambush, one of whom is a Holocaust survivor. The event was part of a weekly public gathering held in solidarity with families of Israelis held captive in Gaza.
Another shocking episode cited in the federal bulletin took place in Washington, D.C., on May 21. Two Israeli Embassy staffers—Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Miligrim—were gunned down in front of the Capital Jewish Museum following a diplomatic event hosted by the American Jewish Committee, an organization known for promoting support for Israel and fighting antisemitism. The assailant, Elias Rodriguez, opened fire on a group of attendees as they exited the venue.
Rodriguez is now facing a series of serious charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, along with additional federal charges for the murder of foreign officials, causing death with a firearm, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
The joint FBI-DHS statement warned that foreign terrorist groups could seek to capitalize on tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Gaza. “Foreign terrorist organizations may attempt to ‘exploit narratives related to the conflict to inspire attacks,’” it stated, urging members of the public to stay alert and notify law enforcement of any threats or suspicious behavior.
With tensions high and targeted violence on the rise, the government’s latest alert serves as both a warning and a call to action—emphasizing vigilance and community safety during a time of growing instability.
