In what can only be described as unprecedented, over five hundred doctors representing numerous Jewish communities across North America , signed a letter confirming the need for all children and healthy adults to get immunized according to the CDC schedule. This mass declaration by medical professionals , likely the first of its kind addressing the broad Orthodox Jewish communities nationally,  directly and starkly calls out the dangerous falsehoods being spread  by so called anti- vaxxers.
The message reads,”We are aware of the dangerous misinformation campaign being spread and reject any unproven unscientific statements that contradict all available current science-based studies on vaccinations.” What makes the statement that much more important is that it comes at a time when Jewish communities are battling not only the potential for a measles outbreak in their own backyards, but also the false perception that  Orthodox Jews do not vaccinate. Indeed, statistics issued by the NYS  and NYC Health departments confirm that in fact the overwhelming majority of Orthodox Jewish children are vaccinated, and the doctors in this letter are clearly aiming their unequivocal recommendations to the small percentage of people who have refused to inoculate themselves and their children from dreaded illnesses like measles, mumps, rubella and other diseases, at the expense of the larger community.
The letter is signed by recognized and trusted physicians from literally every medical specialty  from various states including; New York, New Jersey, California, Florida,Texas, Arizona, Ohio, Illinois,  Pennsylvania, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Wisconsin as well as Toronto and  Montreal, calling on individuals and Jewish communities  to work together to “prevent harmful diseases from spreading.”  ‎
Rabbi Dr. Aaron Glatt, MD, a clinical professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a highly respected physician and Rabbi in Long Island, was ‎asked why he felt it was important to be one of the original co-sponsors of this unprecedented effort and why over five hundred of his medical colleagues  signed onto such a public declaration. Rabbi Glatt replied, “it is critically important for the Jewish world to know that the greatest poskim from all branches of Orthodox Jewry, as well as the greatest physicians (both number and quality) are in full agreement as to the Pikuach Nefashos imperative regarding measles vaccination.”
Doctors and Askonim are also increasing efforts to inform adults in the wider community to check their own existing immunity levels, because many adults are under the impression that they are properly protected when in reality their childhood immunization may no longer be effective due to a  wearing off of the vaccine. Doctors are fearful that this is a potential danger to thousands of unsuspecting individuals.
“With the measles outbreak now hitting communities like Detroit, and Baltimore and still very active in Rockland County and Brooklyn, the need to protect ourselves and each other has become of paramount concern” said Dr. Edward Bennett a popular emergency medicine physician from Queens and an original sponsor of the letter. Dr. Bennett continued, “people think they are in the clear because they were vaccinated as children but unfortunately we are seeing numerous cases of healthy adults born in the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s who are now taking their titers test, a blood test to measure immunity, and coming back with negative immunity to one or more of the diseases. This requires an immediate booster shot.
“Bennett concluded, “checking your titers is something everyone can easily do and should be an immediate priority, especially if you are traveling.”
One prominent  pediatrician with thousands of patients didn’t want to be named for fear of harassment by‎ extremist anti-vaxxers.  He said “it is clear that the tide is now turning and after this public declaration letter, no longer will fringe elements  be able to freely dismiss the peer reviewed and universally accepted positions of renowned medical experts in our own community. People should pay attention to the trusted medical professionals they have always turned to in times of medical crisis.”
TLS has learned that The Doctors declaration is being featured in a mass public information campaign with the participation of numerous media outlets and includes the launching of a new website www.DRSFORVAAX.ORG‎ that will provide viewers with an expanded Doctors list, location, credentials, specialties and updated and timely information on immunization.‎

THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE CDC:

Q: I’ve been exposed to someone who has measles. What should I do?

A: Immediately call your doctor and let him or her know that you have been exposed to someone who has measles. Your doctor can

  • determine if you are immune to measles based on your vaccination record, age, or laboratory evidence, and
  • make special arrangements to evaluate you, if needed, without putting other patients and medical office staff at risk.

If you are not immune to measles, MMR vaccine or a medicine called immune globulin may help reduce your risk developing measles. Your doctor can help to advise you, and monitor you for signs and symptoms of measles.

If you do not get MMR or immune globulin, you should stay away from settings where there are susceptible people (such as school, hospital, or childcare) until your doctor says it’s okay to return. This will help ensure that you do not spread it to others.

Q: Am I protected against measles?

A: CDC considers you protected from measles if you have written documentation (records) showing at least one of the following:

  • You received two doses of measles-containing vaccine, and you are a(n)—
    • school-aged child (grades K-12)
    • adult who will be in a setting that poses a high risk for measles transmission, including students at post-high school education institutions, healthcare personnel, and international travelers.
  • You received one dose of measles-containing vaccine, and you are a(n)—
    • preschool-aged child
    • adult who will not be in a high-risk setting for measles transmission.
  • A laboratory confirmed that you had measles at some point in your life.
  • A laboratory confirmed that you are immune to measles.
  • You were born before 1957.

Q: What should I do if I’m unsure whether I’m immune to measles?

A: If you’re unsure whether you’re immune to measles, you should first try to find your vaccination records or documentation of measles immunity. If you do not have written documentation of measles immunity, you should get vaccinated with measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine. Another option is to have a doctor test your blood to determine whether you’re immune. But this option is likely to cost more and will take two doctor’s visits. There is no harm in getting another dose of MMR vaccine if you may already be immune to measles (or mumps or rubella).

  1. Why should healthy adults get vaccinated? Didn’t they get double dosage of vaccination as kids? If so, which sane person would vaccinate their children if over 500 doctors are now admitting that the vaccination they got as kids are worthless and one has to inject themselves over and over again with dangerous vaccine. Idiots are those who are still blinded by the lying doctors.

    • Adults born between 1957 and 1989 may have only received one MMR vaccine because the guidelines changed later on. So adults living in areas like Williamsburg or Monsey where there is an ongoing measles outbreak should go to the doctor to have their titers (immunity) checked to find out if they need another MMR vaccine. It was a simple blood test for me and confirmed I’m immune.

  2. CONGRESS Labeled vaccines as unavoidably unsafe.

MERCK states in the MMR vaccine insert that the MMR may cause death.

VAERS paid out more than 4 billion and counting in vaccine injury damage.

According to the CDC no one in the USA died of measles between 2004 and 2014, yet according to VAERS 108 people died of the MMR shot.

THE OTTAWA HOSPITAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE found in a 2011 study that 1 out of 168 babies that received the MMR shot had to be hospitalized between 4 to 12 days from their shot. In this study, several of the hospitalized babies died.

    • You say “THE OTTAWA HOSPITAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE found in a 2011 study that 1 out of 168 babies that received the MMR shot had to be hospitalized between 4 to 12 days from their shot. ”
That is incorrect. the clinical endpoint in the study is emergency room visits OR hospital admissions. The increased incidence of that COMBINED ENDPOINT was 1 in 168 WITH NON-SIGNIFICANT INCREASES IN HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS.
Please, please, read things before you quote them. This kind of bias confirmation weakens your argument among thinking people.
Besides the unfortunate fact that the anti-vaxxers are fully responsible for reawakening dreams of pogroms against the disease carrying Jews. It may be a risk, but you are guilty of creating that risk.

  3. I see in this notice it says accd to the age appropriate level. If the mumps and rubella parts of the vaccine have not been tested for safety and efficacy for babies under 12 months of age, does that mean it is not appropriate for that age group? (On the one hand, we are trying to protect young babies because they cannot get the MMR vaccine, but at the same time we are giving them the vaccine that has components (mumps and rubella) not tested for safety for them.)

Are these rabbis suggesting that women of childbearing age take birth control for three months after getting the MMR vaccine because the manufacturer’s insert for MMR advises that women do not become pregnant for three months after the vaccine? Is anyone publicizing this fact, and also advising women to have a pregnancy test before they take the vaccine? (On the one hand, we are trying to protect pregnant women because they cannot get the vaccine, but on the other hand we may be causing harm to unborn babies in those mothers who are not aware of the manufacturer’s warning!)

Finally, there are no vaccines that have been tested for safety on pregnant women. I see these rabbis are advising vaccines for pregnant women. Is there something these rabbis know that the manufacturers don’t know about the safety of vaccinating pregnant women?

Please note there are other doctors and scientists who feel differently about this issue:

    • Checking Your link, i couldn’t help but notice the article was written by a personal trainer with no actual medical background. Reading further it seems that many of these Doctors are discredited by pretty much everyone. I googled some of them. You should to.

      • Avraham,
I am sorry to say that every time a doctor comes out on the other side of this issue he is automatically labeled a quack.
I do not know if you are old enough to remember Dr. Robert Mendelsohn. He was considered the “Dr. Spock” of his generation. He is one of the doctors listed.
Other doctors such as pediatricians Dr. Bob Sears, Dr. Paul Thomas and Dr. Larry Pavelsky were pro-vaccine originally. But over the years they watched their patients get sick with auto immune disorders and autism as well. They decided to do their own research into vaccines bec in med school they were only taught one thing about vaccines – follow the CDC schedule
After doing their own research (and remember they are medical doctors so they knew what they were reading) they realized that there may be a problem with the current vaccine schedule and that is when they changed their opinion about the matter. They are not all necessarily against all vaccines, but they believe they should be spaced out, some given later, and some not given at all. They do not believe the current CDC schedule is safe for all children.
It is interesting to note that Dr. Paul Thomas did a study of his patients in regard to autism. Those of his patients who followed his vaccine schedule, which differs from the CDC schedule, had no cases of autism. Those of his patients who followed the CDC schedule had the national average of autism rate.

        Dr. Larry Palevsky:

Avraham the fact that you took the time to investigate the link I posted means to me that you are truly interested in finding out more about this subject. On that note, I will offer one more video – a presentation given by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr, who is dedicating his life to fighting for the rights of parents to have free choice in this issue. (Five Yale doctors/professors were supposed to speak at this vaccine forum, put together by a govt official in Connecticut, but they all backed out at the last minute. Nonetheless, Bobby Kennedy, Jr. gave his talk to the media and others present.)

And finally, for another opinion from a family physician of 50 years, you can read “Vaccines – A Reappraisal” by Dr. Richard Moskowitz, BA Harvard, Phi Beta Kappa, medical degree from NYU School of Medicine.

        • Thank you for your reply.
From some more research, it appears that Doctor Bob sears has had his medical licence put on probation (under charges unrelated to vaccines). Further, even he has said that he thinks “the disease danger is low enough where I think you can safely raise an unvaccinated child in today’s society”.
I think we can all agree that in todays world, and in our community, the disease danger is not low enough one can safely raise an unvaccinated child.
Furthermore, as you have stated, Dr Paul Thomas (pediatrician) is not against immunizations per-say, he just has a different plan on the scheduling of the vaccinations.
Dr. Palevsky (pediatrician) practices holistic medicine, doesnt believe in antibiotics (his website states that “On average, he writes one antibiotic prescription per year.”), and pretty much goes the whole nine-yards on all things that fall under the category of modern medicine.
Dr. Robert Mendelsohn died in 1988 thus missing out of 31 years of medical science. Remember at some point healing with different color lights were in great vogue.
All in all you’ve given me the names of four pediatricians, and of those, not all against vaccinations.
May I give you a list of over 500 who are all for them?
To make it sound scientific, that a ratio of 125:1 in favor of vaccines.
And I believe it also important to remember that measles just killed well over 1200 people in Madagascar. In the US where we have access to competent hospitals, we could help treat the effects (pneumonia, encephalitis etc.).
But why let it get to that step? At that point doctors are injecting your kid with far more “toxins” than there are in a couple of vaccines. Be smart. Please.
And stop this massive Chillul Hashem.

    • Can you prove that it is a lie?

I am on neither side, but I can’t prove you right or wrong and neither can I prove them right or wrong.

  4. They say to include immunization of pregnant women. They are going against the CDC itself!! Here is a direct quote:
    from the CDC:” Special situations
Pregnancy with no evidence of immunity to rubella: MMR contraindicated during pregnancy; after pregnancy (before discharge from health care facility), 1 dose MMR”

    MMR CONTRAINDICATED during pregnancy.

Do these doctors know what they are talking about?

  5. Your title reads “unprecedented”. Impressive? Perhaps. But unprecedented? Nah. Bloodletting. That’s the real cure. At least that’s what nearly all doctors including Maimonides believed in 900 years ago.
