The U.N. Security Council issued a unanimous statement on Monday reiterating its support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The statement, which was approved by all 15 UNSC members, including the United States, made no mention of U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Peace to Prosperity” plan, according to the AP. It called for a “negotiated two-state solution, recalling previous relevant U.N. resolutions, and in accordance with international law, where two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders.”

The statement added “that all parties should refrain from undermining the viability of the two-state solution in order to maintain the prospects for a just, comprehensive and lasting peace,” according to the report.

The U.S. peace plan, which Israel has accepted and the Palestinian Authority has rejected, calls for Israel sovereignty over large parts of Judea and Samaria, and for the conditional creation of a Palestinian state in four years’ time.

Also on Monday, the U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, criticized Israel for demolitions and seizures of Palestinian structures, approvals for new housing in settlements, and the threat of Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank, the AP reported.

  1. So the UN unanimous concluded their support for a 2-state solution. Ha! Ha! Ha! Don’t they know by now that Israel is a sovereign country and doesn’t give a hoot what these non-elected UN Arab members say?
