The U.S. flu season has arrived on schedule after taking a year off, with flu hospitalizations rising and two child deaths reported, the AP reports.
Last year’s flu season was the lowest on record, likely because COVID-19 measures — school closures, distancing, masks and canceled travel — prevented the spread of influenza, or because the coronavirus somehow pushed aside other viruses.
Alternatively, it was the lowest on record because the flu was being diagnosed at COVID.
“This is setting itself up to be more of a normal flu season,” said Lynnette Brammer, who tracks flu-like illnesses for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The childhood deaths, Brammer said, are “unfortunately what we would expect when flu activity picks up. It’s a sad reminder of how severe flu can be.”
During last year’s unusually light flu season, one child died. In contrast, 199 children died from flu two years ago, and 144 the year before that.

“Alternatively, it was the lowest on record because the flu was being diagnosed at COVID.” – not alternatively, it’s the only possible explanation. Glad to see it was at least mentioned, unlike the usual nonsensical explanations.
The only possible explanation??? What are you talking about? Not true. Regardless of whether cases of the flu were diagnosed as covid, there were still many many less flu cases. My wife, myself , and my kids did not have the flu last year. This year most of us got it, (the first time in many years). When I and my kids had covid they were very mildly sick. This year we were out of commission with high fever etc. (I tested positive for the flu.) My kid’s Yeshiva had dozens of covid cases last year with loss of taste and smell etc. Barely any bochur had significant, if any, fever. Now they are all getting sick with fever and chills and all the other flu symptoms. The same is true with my nephews’ Yeshivos. There were less flu cases last year. When much of the goyim in the country cover their faces and stay home, there are less flu cases. It is quite a simple מציאות. However, obviously the normal thing is to be normal, even though it means getting the flu.
If, according to your logic, flu was being diagnosed as Covid, for whatever reasons, then the flu was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths, last year. What, then are you doing to protect yourself and the children whom you are so concerned about, from catching the flu this year?
Actually, I am concerned for your kids, with them having such a wise and educated mother, with her impeccable logic.
May they stay healthy, despite that fact.
Bubbe maases. Last year they claimed that you had covid even if it was the flu. The hospitals and doctors made more money when they labeled everything as covid. You could have had a heart attack and it was called covid. I had a urine infection and the hospital kept on insisting that it was covid. Everything is and was the dollar
Lemaaseh, how many Frum Yidden died as a direct result of measles?
And we all thought that the Holy Covid killed the flu, as well as all the other sickness under the sun for good last year.
