A Palestinian gunman carried out a shooting attack on Wednesday night in the northern region of the West Bank, targeting Israeli vehicles and seriously injuring a pregnant woman and her husband as they were on their way to the hospital for the birth of their child, according to emergency responders.

The woman, who was in her 30s, was critically wounded and taken to Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva. Doctors performed an urgent cesarean section in an attempt to save both mother and child. The baby, listed in serious condition, was moved to Schneider Children’s Hospital, which is located within the same medical complex.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, the hospital confirmed that the mother had passed away.

Officials identified the victim as Tzeela Gez.

Her husband, Chananel, who had been behind the wheel during the attack, sustained only minor injuries, according to hospital staff, though his condition had initially been considered more serious.

In response to the attack, the Israel Defense Forces initiated a wide-scale operation to locate the terrorist who had opened fire on multiple vehicles traveling along Route 446, near the Bruchin settlement where the injured couple lived.

Security forces set up numerous checkpoints in the region, and according to Palestinian media outlets, some residents were unable to return to their homes, spending the night in their cars due to the restrictions.

Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu condemned the attack, saying he was “deeply shocked by the horrific terrorist attack.”

“This abhorrent incident precisely reflects the difference between us, who desire and bring life, and the reprehensible terrorists, whose goal is to kill us and destroy life,” he stated in a message released by his office.

  1. Am Yisrael: May we only hear besorot tovot. I feel that our nation has endured too many tragedies. It is hard to cry even if we want to.

  2. Written in Navi that Hashem will give us a heart of flesh inplace of a heart of stone. Why did our hearts become of stone? Perhaps from the pain of Galut. If we increase Talmud Torah, it will deduct from the judgement of pain of galut.
