A U.S. airstrike this past Monday killed the Osama bin Laden of the al-Shabaab terrorist groupin Somalia, the Pentagon announced today. The status of Ahmed Godane was unclear for the past several days, with different sources saying he was dead or alive following the airstrike.
Godane and Shabaab publicaly claimed responsibility for a September 2013 attack on a mall in Nairobi, Kenya that killed dozens.
The terrorist group is considered the largest al-Qaeda affiliate in Africa by the U.S. Read more.
