Kan Reshet Bet reported Sunday that the United States has relayed to Hamas a set of guiding principles for a potential broad agreement meant to move forward discussions on releasing hostages and bringing an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The framework was conveyed via an Israeli go-between who has previously played a role in facilitating communications with Hamas during earlier rounds of talks. The report added that this could explain why Hamas publicly declared last night that it was prepared to accept the Qatar-Egypt plan first presented in mid-August.

At the same time, Ron Dermer, who heads Israel’s negotiating team and is a trusted adviser to Prime Minister Netanyahu, is scheduled to fly to Washington in the coming days for meetings with senior members of the Trump administration.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump commented on the state of the discussions between Israel and Hamas over both the hostages and a potential ceasefire.

“We are in deep negotiations with Hamas. It’s Israel’s choice. If we don’t get them all out now, it will be very bad. There are 32 dead. There are 20 hostages alive, but I think some of them have recently died, as I’ve heard,” the US president said.
