The United States slapped new sanctions on Lebanon’s Hezbollah for the second time in two days Thursday, in an attempt to further stifle the Iran-backed group’s access to cash.
A chief target of the new measures was Mohammad Ibrahim Bazzi, described by the US Treasury as a Hezbollah finance guru, and companies he controls in Belgium, Lebanon and the Gambia.
The move comes after a slew of the Shiite militia’s leaders were blacklisted by the US on Wednesday and a few days after sanctions were imposed on Iran’s central bank, partly due to cash flows to Hezbollah.
